Amrita Darshanam Releases the 13th Issue of SAMVIT

The 13th issue of SAMVIT, the Bi-Annual Cultural Magazine, was released by Prof. Abhiraj Rajendra Mishra, Convener, Sanskrit Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, and Former Vice Chancellor, Sampurnanda Sanskrit University, Varanasi, in the presence of honorary scholars and guests at the one-day National Symposium on the Storytelling Tradition of Sanskrit on October 20, 2018, at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus.

SAMVIT, meaning “knowledge” or “consciousness” in Sanskrit, is the magazine about India’s Society & Culture published by Amrita Darshanam – International Centre for Spiritual Studies, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Stretching from wide aspects of Indian culture and civilizations to current social issues, SAMVIT aims at encouraging everyone from all walks of life to have a broader understanding of Indian heritage and have higher aspirations in their lives.

On this issue, we introduce three new article series– “The Why of Ramayana”, “On the meaning of Mahābhārata” and “Introduction of Shastric Treatises”. Along with the series “The Wonder That Is Sanskrit”, they are the creative analysis and introduction to influential epics, Sanskrit literature and Shastric treatises in India. The timeless universal wisdom contained herein has provided guidance to both laymen and the learned on leading a meaningful life along the path of Dharma for millennia, by capturing millions of hearts and minds through the exquisite and effective use of language.

The answers don’t reside in any single space but through various disciplines. They are manifestations and paths that can direct us back to the origin – the ultimate light within. This issue also contains some insightful articles in the realms of arts and culture, history, the significance of temples, mathematics and environmental issues, together with Amma’s teaching and the insightful interview with Śatāvadhāni Dr. R Ganesh. They includes: “Every Single Minute”, “Yakṣagāna”, “Kannauj Perfume”, “The Portuguese and The Cape of Loot Hope”, “East Meets West Birthday Parties”, “Sri Nellaiappar Temple – An Epitome of Dravidian Architecture”, “A Brief write-up on the two-day workshop on ‘Glimpses of Indian Mathematics’”, “Personalized Medicine Research Advances in Ayurveda”, “Weighted Arithmetic Mean Calculation in Ancient India”, “The Woeful Tale of Yamuna…” and “Interview on the Art of Avadhāna with Śatāvadhāni Dr. R Ganesh”.
