The Panel Discussion on “The changing landscape of the corporate world in the digital era and how fresh graduates can stay ahead of the curve” was jointly organized by the Department of Commerce and Management and Corporate & Industry Relations (CIR), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus on 6th October 2023.
With Dr. K Balaji, Chairperson of the Department of Commerce and Management at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus as the moderator of the panel discussion, the esteemed panelists included Mr. Aravind Warrier, Business Partner, Human Resources at AB Volvo; Mr. Shyam, Manager (Placements) at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Trichy; Dr. Balachandar S, Associate Professor and Senior Manager, Learning and Development at ISBR Business School, Bengaluru; Mr. Joshua David, India Campus Lead at Mphasis; and Mr. Patham Iyer, Freelance Consultant. Prof. Shekar Babu, Associate Dean; Prof. G. Ravindranath, Principal; Dr. Rekha Bhat, Academic Coordinator; staff; and students were also present during the panel discussion.
Mr. Aravind Warrier emphasized the importance of self-reflection and creative skill development in an era dominated by artificial intelligence. He urged students not to solely rely on AI resources like Chat GPT but to foster human connectedness and creativity. Mr. Shyam categorized career options into investigative, artistic, and subjective fields, advising students to explore their interests through workshops, internships, and projects. He highlighted the challenge of matching roles with students’ preferences. Mr. Joshua David stressed the enduring value of basic theoretical knowledge, goal clarity, and personal branding. Dr. Balachandar S introduced the VRIO concept and SMART goals, advocating the use of AI tools for learning and employability development. Mr. Patham Iyer discussed the evolving digital era, advising students to focus on communication skills, analytical abilities, and basic tech proficiency. He also recommended learning foreign languages. Dr. K Balaji concluded the session, listing themes like machine learning and critical thinking, and urged students to seek the right role, skill, and pay.
