The Department of Clinical Nutrition at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, in collaboration with IAAND – International Affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, conducted the first-ever International Symposium on Nutrition Research Collaboration. The symposium, held on the 9th and 10th of February 2024, brought together esteemed speakers from various corners of the globe to share their expertise on diverse aspects of nutrition.
With 13 prominent speakers from different parts of the world, the symposium served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. Participants included students, Ph.D. scholars, faculties, dietitians, and physicians, with around 250 individuals representing numerous colleges and hospitals across the country.
The symposium’s agenda was meticulously crafted to address a wide spectrum of topics within the field of nutrition. Sessions ranged from comparative analyses of guidelines between the Indian Dietetic Association and the American Dietetic Association to discussions on ground-breaking research initiatives and available scholarships for academic pursuits. Noteworthy discussions also delved into pertinent issues such as updated guidelines on renal nutrition, sustainable food consumption and nutrition, breastfeeding in critically ill and special needs infants, and strategies for addressing stunting in mountain communities.
Beyond enriching the academic discourse, the event also paved the way for meaningful collaborations within the global nutrition community. By providing access to IAAND’s extensive resources and ongoing projects, attendees were empowered to stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field and leverage opportunities for professional development.
Moreover, IAAND extended membership opportunities for students, further enhancing their engagement and involvement in the realm of nutrition research and practice.
Following the symposium, a specialized workshop on the nutrition care process was conducted, offering students invaluable hands-on experience and practical insights into dealing with real-world cases. This interactive session equipped participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of nutrition care effectively.
