Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi
The Amritipuri campus had anticipated Samavarnam for weeks. This cultural program emphasizing values, saw days of preparation and poster announcements. When the program finally opened with chanting and lighting of the lamp, the hall grew quiet.
Chief Guest, Swami Poornamritananda Puri, then honored the assembly with a special satsang. Given below are excerpts from Swamiji’s talk.
“Now-a-days we see so many cultural programs that have no culture. We see reality shows that have no reality; they are only artificial shows. Today we will see a natural, beautiful cultural program.
Amma says that whatever is natural is beautiful. Amma always recommends that we come closer to nature, because nature is so beautiful that it can purify our mind and take us to the state of meditation. So don’t forget to enjoy the beauty of the sky, stars, oceans and flowers.
Children get a chance to watch all this natural beauty, but grownups never get a chance because they are engaged in trying to solve life’s problems. Wherever you go, any corner of this world, somebody will be there to create a problem for you.
Don’t worry. It’s nature’s arrangement to make you strong. Problems occur throughout life. In the study of physics, when you know the solution to a complicated problem, there is enjoyment. Life itself is like that. When you know the solution, you can enjoy the problem.
This is why the scriptures, the instruction manuals on how to live, are given. They can teach us how to use our precious bodies and minds. We can learn the scriptures or can understand everything about the scriptures from the life of a mahatma like Amma.
When you think about something, it’s like shooting an arrow. Suppose you think “Lokah Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu” then you shoot an arrow of positive thought. This arrow all over the world like microwaves, strikes all objects of the world and comes back to you millions of times more powerful, as a blessing.
Similarly, when you transmit negative thoughts, it can be dangerous. Like an atomic weapon, they will travel all over the world, strike objects and come back to you like a curse. You can change your future through positive imagination. When we know how to use the powerful instruments of the body and the mind, we can achieve everything in life.
Mahatmas teach us through the example of their lives. Even if you insult them, they can enjoy life. If there is success, they will be happy. If there is failure, they will be even more happy. They enjoy each and every experience of life. So we should be inspired by Amma and try to enjoy each and every moment of life.
