IEEE Power Electronics Society Student Branch Chapter at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, organized a seminar on “Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation for Sustainable Development”, including hands-on training, by Dr. H. Naganagouda, Director, National Training Centre For Solar Technology , KPCL, Bangaloreon March 2, 2017 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Bengaluru Campus.
M. Tech. Power Electronics, final year, pre-final year, B.Tech., and EEE final year students, along with faculty members of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering attended the seminar. Dr. H. Naganagouda started his talk by giving an overview of energy conservation and its importance. He gave a brief description of the electrical system and few important points such as: electricity billing, electrical load management, maximum demand control, power factor improvement and its benefit, selection and location of capacitors, performance assessment of PF capacitors, distribution and transformer losses.
Dr. Naganagouda also gave descriptions of alternative energy solutions. He discussed solar power plants, different types of solar panels with different ratings, along with with hands-on training, as well as an overview of the design of a PV panel. He included a brief description of wind power plants and the design of a wind turbine, which included major parameters like gear ratios. He concluded the talk by motivating students to join in IEEE for networking with experts and getting updated with the present technology.
The session ended with Dr. Ramprabhakar felicitating Dr. H Naganagauda and a vote of thanks. The seminar was organized by the IEEE PELS student branch chapter members of Amrita School of Engineering, with the support and guidance of the chairperson and faculty of EEE department.
