The Department offers a undergraduate course in mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineering is an engineering discipline that was developed from the application of principles from physics and materials science. 

Mechanical engineering involves the analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of various systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.

The field requires a solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and energy. Mechanical engineers use the core principles as well as other knowledge in the field to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, motor vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more.

The M.Tech. programme in Thermal Sciences and Energy Systems is designed to develop Mechanical/Automobile engineers with a high standard of expertise in Thermal Science, Energy Production and Energy Management. This programme also includes courses on Micro Flows and Micro/Nano Heat Transfer which are of great importance in electronic equipment design industry where as Solar energy, Renewable Energy resources and Energy policies for Sustainable development are helpful in the development of eco-friendly environment.

This programme is designed to enable the students to develop expertise in both theory and design of Thermal Systems, Energy Systems and Energy Management. The students also learn to simulate various fluid, thermal and energy systems using different computational tools.

This programme offers many career options for the youngsters in both public and private sector involved in production of energy, design and production of thermal systems and energy systems. They will also get opportunities to join various Research and Development organizations.
