Amrita Awarded TDF Project for Development of Light Weight Bullet Proof Materials

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the Defence industrial major, L&T, were awarded the TDF certificate on 18th January, 2018, by Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman in Chennai. L&T in collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will develop the light weight bullet proof materials for the Indian Army. 

Amrita Student Co-authors Paper in Nature Astronomy Journal

Sudarsan S, a final year student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, co-authored a paper titled, "Detection of a Westward Hotspot Offset in the Atmosphere of Hot Gas Giant CoRoT-2b", which was published in the Nature Astronomy journal, on January 22, 2018.

Government Gives Nod to Indigenous Technology for Light Weight Bullet Proof Materials Designed by Amrita Faculty Member

The indigenous technology for the ultra light bullet Proof Materials proof jackets, designed by Dr. Shantanu Bhowmik, Professor, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, has got government’s nod and prototypes of the same will be readied jointly by Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and Coimbatore based Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. A grant of close to Rs 10 crores for Development of the prototype has been given under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The TDF grant will be used to set up a pilot scale facility at Amrita University for processing these materials, supporting research at Amrita University for developing the configuration, realisation and testing of panels and delivery of a prototype vest from the facility.
