The Times of India Chennai edition of today (Friday, September 19, 2014) has erroneously titled an article as Amrita university fake job scam, whereas the article is concerned about an Institute of Hotel Management in Chennai that uses Amritha in its title, but is absolutely UNRELATED to Amrita University headquartered in Coimbatore. Amrita University is of international academic and research repute and has no programs in hotel management whatsoever, and never indulges in any such fake job practices even in slightest manner. Times of India has accepted its grave error in branding the Hotel Managment Institute as Amritha University, and Times of India has agreed to retract the report and publish a correction in tomorrow's edition.  September 19, 2014 Amrita University

“Hare krishna hare krishna, krishna krishna hare hare………….  Radhe krishna radhe krishna radha govinda……” With Sri Krishna bhajans and slogans, Amrita University’s Coimbatore Campus celebrated this year’sGokulashtami on August 17, 2014. Gokulashtami is also known as Sri Krishna Jayanthi, the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna.  The festivity began in the early morning with Nagara Sankeerthanam where students and faculty took an idol of the Krishna across the campus singing His glory. Around 9.00 A.M. the procession of richly decorated floats from each department of the campus, screening various messages and sights from Krishna Avatar, began. Little girls and boys dressed as Krishnas and Gopikas walked beside the floats and a group of students singing and dancing accompanied them. The float which portrayed the Varaha Avatar rescuing Goddess of Earth and Vedas from the sea by the department of Computer Science and Engineering bagged the first place in the competition. Small idols of Lord Krishna stood in little huts all over the campus. As always Swami Jnanamritanandapuri distributed "Prasadam" for entire Amritians.

The country's 68th Independence Day was celebrated with great fervor at Amrita University’s Amritapuri Campus. The 15th of August is a day like no other in the memory of Indians. It is the day we honor the memory of our ancestors and the sacrifices they made for our motherland, and above all, it reminds us of the true value of our freedom. Furthermore, on the day of independence, Amrita Sanjeevani, the Students Seva Association of Amrita University’s Amritapuri campus, under the guidance of Amma, took an initiative to free our environment from the accumulating waste that burdens our Mother Earth. Taking a small step, Amrita Sanjeevani introduced the Independence Day cleanup drive to remove the waste from nearby surroundings so that it may be recycled, or at the very least, better disposed of.  The cleanup drive took place in the immediate vicinity of the campus and was inaugurated by Sheela Sarasan, President, Clappana Grama Panchayat, Oachira Block, Kollam, Kerala after the national flag hoisting ceremony.
