Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and India Meteorological Department, Ministry Of Earth Sciences, Government of India, signed an MoU for “CLIMATE CHANGE RISK ASSESSMENT, MODELING AND MULTI HAZARD MANAGEMENT“.

Dr. Maneesha V. Ramesh, Provost, Strategic Initiatives, Research & Innovation, AI+X and Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, DGM signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.

Scope of Work as per MoU is summarized as follows
  • To study and develop rainfall threshold models for a multi-hazard scenarios such as landslides, floods and drought;
  • To study and implement systems for natural hazard (multi-hazard) monitoring, modelling and mitigation for developing impact-based early warning systems for selected locations;
  • To study the impact of climate change and anthropogenic activities on agriculture, water availability and quality, and natural hazards;
  • To study and develop geospatial models for variability in groundwater access, water quality and agricultural crop yield;
  • To analyze climate change adaptation and mitigation studies to develop a strategic framework for community resilience;
  • To do geospatial modelling of earth observations by applying state-of-the-art methodologies in the area of big data analysis, statistical downscaling, deep learning modelling
The proposed research collaboration will address the following Objectives/Work components.
  • Rainfall Models for Multi-Hazard Early Warning
  • Multi-hazard Monitoring and Modeling (LMM)
  • Research on extreme weather events including cloudbursts, heatwaves, cyclones etc., and their interrelationships with the initiation of multi-hazards
  • Disaster Management and Resilient Community (DMRC)
  • Climate Changes & Impacts: To understand the climatic changes and the impact of these changes on hazard formation and evolution; Agriculture, and Water security.
  • To study the Land-Atmosphere-Ocean interactions g) Joint Research & Academic Collaborations

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Esri India Technologies Pvt. Ltd signed an MoU on 26 December 2020 during the International Symposium on Tsunami Risk Reduction and Community Resilience.

Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice-Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidhypeetham and Mr. Agendra Kumar, President, Esri India Technologies Pvt. Ltd signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.

MoU between the two organizations is for Establishing the Center for Geoinformatics in Spatial Analysis & Modeling under the aegis of Amrita School for Sustainable Development, Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications, UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation & Development And UNESCO Chair on Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality

Scope of the MoU

This MoU contains the modalities and terms and conditions for a cooperative relationship between Esri India and Amrita in various activities of mutual interest:

The primary goals of this MoU are:

  1. Establish a Center of Excellence in the area of “Geoinformatics and Spatial Analytics & Modelling” at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, Kollam, Kerala, with dedicated Research, Development and Test facilities.
  2. Capacity Building for geospatial research in mutually agreed domains.
  3. Conduct webinars on relevant areas of GIS, Spatial information technology, Remote sensing, AI/ML or other relevant areas that may be beneficial to both parties and the community.
  4. Conduct Hackathon on relevant technical subjects to increase technology usage.
  5. Provide short certificate courses which include, but are not limited to prevalent Industry requirements in respective areas. The certificate, course duration and the financials for execution will be mutually agreed upon between Amrita and Esri India.
  6. Internship opportunities for BTech / MTech / PhD students pursuing Geoinformatics, based on the selection of candidates by Esri India.
  7. Utilization of Esri technology for enabling Smart Campus
  8. Utilize Esri technologies into Amrita’s Flagship program like Amrita Live-in-Labs® with the following thematic areas:
    1. Health and Hygiene
    2. Water and Sanitation
    3. Agriculture and Risk Management
    4. Energy and Environment
    5. Waste Management and Infrastructure
    6. Education and Gender Equality
    7. Livelihood and Skill Development

Collaboration in addressing the relevant call for proposals, as mutually agreed to

  • Submit project proposal(s) in areas of mutual interest.
  • Support Academia as Industry partners in such proposals.

Development of Academic Programs, as mutually agreed to

  • Develop curriculum for new courses
  • Enhance existing curriculum with new educational material and technical advances
