Amrita Students Paper on Drone to Detect Forest Fire Wins Best Paper Award at World Congress on Disaster Management

The students of the 2017-21 batch of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, bagged the ‘Best Paper Award’ for a paper presented at a peer-reviewed international conference, 5th World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM), hosted by IIT-Delhi, from November 24-28, 2021.

The students, Amal Sujith, Sagar Sajeev, Navaneeth Krishna S. and Vishnu O. V., developed a drone for forest fire detection. The team bagged the Best Paper Award in the ‘Young Authors’ category for their paper titled “Forest Fire Early Detection System using Wireless Beacon Network and UAV based Object Detection”. The team was honored at the valedictory function held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. The paper was selected amongst 514 other paper presenters.

The team was mentored by Geethu R. S. (Assistant Professor (Sr. Gr.), Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri) and Asish Mohan (Faculty Associate, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri).
