AmritaCREATE develops Interactive Software for Human Trafficking

On December 2, 2014 Chancellor Amma signed a ceremonial declaration with Pope Francis and ten other renowned world religious leaders at Vatican City, Rome, declaring a war against the heinous crime of human trafficking.

Guided by Chancellor Amma, AmritaCREATE developed an interactive software where learners make right or wrong choices and learn how to avoid becoming victims of human trafficking. The interactive software is one way Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham helps spread awareness of the common methods used in trafficking and the dangers of sex trafficking, organ trafficking, child trafficking for labour and cyber trafficking.

Our team went to Idukki, to pilot the “Smart Decisions” software with school students as part of the Amrita Awareness Ambassador (AAA) program for adolescent girls. The Power of the Adolescent Girl is brought forth in this program as it trains and empowers these girls to spread awareness on important topics like stranger awareness, human trafficking, adolescent health for girls to the entire school and the village community.

The team met separately with 11th grade boys and girls at Bison Valley Government Higher Secondary School and discussed the mobile and internet safety as well as human trafficking awareness. The chosen ambassadors then held a discussion session with 8th and 9th grade girls and boys on safe mobile usage. They shared stories and other tips to stay safe and be aware of strangers in the world. We mentor the Amrita Ambassadors and help them plan monthly activities as they continue to share their knowledge with their families and villages, slowly spreading awareness about human trafficking, and how to stay safe.
