The DST STI Hub project is one of the first Amrita projects to foray into the northeast region of India in Mizoram. Mizoram, one of the seven states of the North East Region of India, is a beautiful land of rolling hills, rivers, and lakes.
While literacy rates are high, Mizoram also has a high number of unemployed, and the rugged land makes ease of doing business a significant challenge. Substance abuse has been identified as a rising concern among young people in the region.
As part of the Digital Literacy and Safety Programme, our team conducted training and awareness session at the Sunday School Hall in Durtlang Venglai Church, Aizawl, Mizoram, on the 17th of March. The church’s youth members, 60 participants, participated in the training program. Eight of our team members organized insightful and interactive presentations and sessions, taking participants through crucial aspects of navigating the digital world securely.
Lalsangzuala led a presentation, intertwining digital literacy essentials with poignant Bible verses, setting a thought-provoking tone for the day. Next, Faka’s musical interlude, accompanied by Frederick’s guitar, added a creative flair to the proceedings, making learning an enjoyable experience. It was followed by thematic discussions where participants delved into critical themes such as Cyber Crime, Gaming Addiction, and Cyber Bullying while fostering a deeper understanding of online safety.
Participants’ active engagement and interaction showed their eagerness to understand the nuances of digital safety. As the programme drew to a close, the room resonated with harmonious melodies and heartfelt prayers, symbolizing unity and gratitude. The event concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.The Digital Literacy and Safety Programme equipped participants with valuable insights and fostered a sense of community and collaboration.
