For several weeks now, several students of the Amrita School of Ayurveda, accompanied by their teachers, have been visiting nearby schools for health camps and health awareness drives.

“So far, we have organized camps in four Amrita Vidyalayam schools,” stated Dr. Manujanath, HoD of the Koumarabritya Department at the School of Ayurveda. “The response everywhere has been tremendous.”

School children, 9 years and above, are given a free health check-up. If any problems are discovered, the children are referred to the Ayurveda OP and their parents bring them there.

The program, aptly named Balamritam, aims to finally conduct a statistical survey of the state of health of children. The Department of Svasthavrita joins the Koumarabritya Department for these camps. Its focus is mainly on creating an awareness of health issues among the children through displays and plays.

“Our students have made presentations on topics like Swine Flu,” shared Dr. Unnikrishnan, HoD of the Department of Svasthavrita. “They have staged dramas to convey messages on Anti-Tobacco and Anti-Alcoholism.”
