Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham gives prime importance to creative and innovative research. In order to develop new synergy for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, the need for strategic partnerships between universities and industries is essential. A powerful infrastructure for innovation is created when companies and universities work in tandem to push the frontiers of knowledge.


The key focus areas of the Industrial Research and Innovation Center are Nanomaterials, Energy Technology, Polymer and Polymer Composites, Biotechnology, Electrochemical Processing, Electronic Materials & Joining Processes and Microheat Exchange Systems. Our research activities involve synthesis, characterization, modification, and applications of a variety of nanomaterials and nanocomposites Synthesized nanomaterials include: carbon nanotubes, graphene, TiO2 nanostructures, bismuth nanohexagons, metal nanoparticles such as gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and zinc. Graphene-TiO2 nanocomposites,, nanostructured iron oxides, and nanostructured aluminosilicates. Methods of synthesis include: chemical vapor deposition, electrodeposition, hydrothermal and sol-gel. These materials are being used in dye-sensitized solar cells, electrochemical sensors, and drug delivery.

ACIRI aims to work with industry partners to develop collaborative R&D projects for creation & commercialization of useful products. The current core competency is in Materials Engineering & has access to other disciplines in Engineering & Science Departments which ACIRI.

ACIRI’s current strength is in (but not limited to) Materials Engineering. ACIRI is driving forward innovation in Energy Technology, Nano Materials, Biotechnology, Polymer/Polymer Composites, Electronic Materials, Electrochemistry and Efficient Microheat Exchangers.


In addition to the laboratory facilities and analytical tools shown in the following pages, ACIRI has easy access to Amrita Biomedical Engineering (AMBE) Lab. AMBE is equipped with facilities such as the Machining Center, Electronics Lab, Plastics Machinery, and a Measurement Lab.
