AmritaCREATE’s Online Labs Reaches Two Lakh Students

Online Labs (OLabs), one of the research initiatives of Amrita Center for Research in Analytics & Technologies for Education (AmritaCREATE), in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has reached almost two lakh students across the country. The project was officially launched in December 2015, aiming to provide a virtual laboratory environment for students in schools without access to a laboratory.

A tweet by Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Central Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, mentioned the initiative which has benefitted 1.96 lakh students from 1603 schools all over the country.

Based on the idea that lab experiments can be taught effectively and economically on the internet, the Online Labs project covers Math, Physics, Biology and Chemistry from 9th to 12th classes in the form of simulations, interactive animations and videos. The virtual platform enables schools without labs to give their students a chance to compete with students from better-equipped schools.

The website is available free of cost to all students upon registration. Therefore, the lab experiments can be accessed by the students at any time, providing an added advantage of less time constraint.
