Abstract : The advent of autonomous microgrids with distributed generators has drawn a lot of interest to studies on microgrid power flow. Conventional power flow approaches cannot overcome several intrinsic restrictions in microgrid’s islanded mode of operation. In this sense, new research has suggested some modifications to the traditional methods by leaving out the slack bus from the algorithm and including network frequency as a variable in their models. This paper discusses about the analysis of power flow in microgrid’s islanded mode of opeartion based on traditional Gauss-Seidel method and explains about the modifications to be performed on the Gauss-Seidel method. The simulation studies are carried out in MATLAB environment on a standard six-bus test system for different conditions of identical and unidentical distributed generators for conventional Gauss-Seidel method. The results of traditional and modified Gauss-Seidel methods are compared and the modified Gauss-Seidel results are found to be better.
