The Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy at Amrita School of Medicine is part of ultramodern, state-of-the- art Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Faridabad, which is a 2600 bedded largest private hospital of Asia with 534 smart ICU & critical care beds & 64 fully networked modular operation theatres.
Department has an extremely well structured, rigorous yet holistically crafted, all inclusive UG & PG training program. It aims to provide highest quality training to its students, mentored by faculty who have not only been trained at AIIMS-ND & AFMC, Pune but have subsequently taught at & headed their respective departments for decades. Apart from 6 days of OPD where we get to see & comprehensively treat a range of skin diseases — common, not so common & some rare, the department runs weekly special clinics for leprosy, vesicobullous disorders, pigmentary diseases, autoimmune connective tissue diseases & allergic disorders. We have a 10-bedded ward where we provide high quality, compassionate inpatient care for a wide range of skin diseases & train students to care for sick patients including those with autoimmune blistering disorders, drug reactions, leprosy in reaction & autoimmune connective tissue diseases. The hospital also has a day care set up, which the department utilizes for administration of newer biologicals.

The training curriculum which we have prepared for the PGs also includes rotation in allied specialties like plastic surgery as also ICUs & focused exposure to pediatric dermatology, & psychodermatology. To train in dermatopathology, regular clinicopath correlation meetings are held with training being imparted on ultramodern decahead microscope by pathologists who have special interest in dermatopathology backed by sophisticated equipment.
To hone student’s procedural dermatology skills, students will be provided training in dermatosurgical & aesthetic procedures including lasers, chemical peeling, microneedling rejuvenation, PRP & GFC therapy, electrosurgical & radiofrequency procedures. Further department collaborates with leading aesthetic & hair transplant surgeons of NCR (trained at AIIMS) to provide hands on training to students.
At our outreach centre in South Delhi we will post the PGs to learn the nuances of setting up & managing a private clinic — an experience unique to our curriculum at Amrita School of Medicine, keeping up with modern trend of dermatologists wanting to venture into their own practice.
Department of Dermatology at Amrita is strong in research & publications, with an ongoing intermediate grant of about 65 million from ICMR, a research grant from the national association of dermatologists on use of AI in dermatology, a couple of pharma-funded projects & the only Department to have received 2 Short term studentship of ICMR for our UGs.
