The DST STI Hub team conducted Digital Literacy Awareness sessions to equip children with the skills to navigate the complexities of the digital landscape responsibly. The sessions were conducted in Special Home (20 March), Hermon Children’s Home (March 21), and Abundant Life Home (March 28), reaching a total of 94 children, in Aizawl, Mizoram.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education). By equipping children with essential digital literacy skills, raising awareness on cyber safety, and integrating technology-driven learning, the project ensures inclusive and equitable quality education. Additionally, fostering digital empowerment in underserved communities contributes to building a safer and more informed society.
The sessions also cover important topics like cyber-crime (identity theft and phishing), cyber-trafficking, and social-media awareness. Interactive group activities were designed where children were provided with tablets to explore programs like Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides. Our team members actively assisted the children, transforming learning into a fun and hands-on experience. The children were enthusiastic and attentive throughout the sessions.
The children actively participated in games and poster-making competitions as they explored using tablets and presentations. Special musical performances by both the team and participants added a delightful touch, fostering a sense of camaraderie.
The goal of the DST STI Hub Mizoram project is to empower tomorrow’s citizens while promoting the general development and well-being of children in the community. The project is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
