The Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, is proud to announce that Dr. Ajith Ramesh (Principal Investigator) and Dr. B. Venkataraman (Co-Principal Investigator) have been awarded a research grant of ₹62.44 lakh under the Grants-in-Aid Scheme of the Aeronautics Research & Development Board (AR&DB), DRDO, Government of India.
The sanctioned project, titled “Numerical Modelling of Flow-Forming Process and Experimental Validation,” focuses on developing a 3D thermo-mechanical numerical model to simulate the reverse flow-forming of 15CDV6 steel, an advanced high-strength alloy used in aerospace applications. Flow-forming is an unconventional incremental forming process that produces seamless cylindrical tubes with superior strength-to-weight ratio and uniform thickness distribution. Through a combination of numerical simulation and experimental validation, the study aims to investigate the influence of key process parameters—such as axial stagger, feed ratio, and percentage reduction—on stresses, strains, deformation patterns, and final tube geometry. The outcomes are expected to optimize process design and contribute to the development of precision manufacturing technologies critical for defense and aeronautical industries.
