Amrita Doctors Reconstruct India's First Breast Bone of Infant Using 3D Printing

A team of doctors from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi has carried out a rare surgical procedure using 3D printing technology to give a new lease of life to an infant who was born without a sternum or breast bone – a rare condition known as complete cleft sternum. The doctors made use of 3D model to perform the complex surgery several times and then used titanium to print the implant that was fixed in place in the body of the infant during the surgery.

Kerala State Renewable Energy Research Award for Amrita

On November 11, 2019, the Kerala State Renewable Energy Award in the category of Research and Innovation was presented to the Kochi campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, by Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Pinnarayi Vijayan on behalf of ANERT, the Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technologies, at a function held in Trivandrum.
