AI Safety Conclave at Amrita Releases White Paper on Ethical and Safe AI for the Global South

Amrita reaffirms its leadership in responsible and human-centric artificial intelligence through its AI Safety Research Lab. A landmark white paper titled “Principles for Ethical and Safe Agentic AI Orchestration Across Infrastructure Gradients – Safety Guidelines for Critical Sectors in India and the Global South” was released during the AI Safety Conclave – ‘ Safe AI Global South’.

The event was arranged as a calculated lead-up to the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) India AI Impact Summit 2026, establishing Amrita as a significant scholar and policy contributor to the national and international conversation on AI governance.

The White paper was launched in the presence of esteemed national and international dignitaries, including Shri Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY and CEO, IndiaAI Mission; Ms Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General, UNESCO; Dr Avinash Ramtohul, Minister of ICT, Republic of Mauritius; and Dr D. Seshagiri, Director and Outstanding Scientist, NPOL-DRDO.

Senior officials from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham were also present on the occasion, and these include Dr Maneesha V. Ramesh, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Dr Krishnasree Achuthan, Dean and key architect of AI Safety Initiatives at Amrita; Dr S. N. Jyoti, Associate Dean; and Prof. Sivaramakrishnan, Prof. of Practice, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Authored by Amrita’s AI Safety Research Lab, this white paper offers ethical, transparent, and safe guidelines for the application of agentic AI, with an emphasis on the infrastructure and socio-economic challenges of the Global South, specifically the Indian subcontinent. This document discusses guidelines for safety by design, transparency, accountability, and human control, among others, specifically for critical industries such as healthcare, education, finance, energy, and public services.

The officials highlighted that this document marks a major milestone in the establishment of trustworthy AI environments and connects international approaches on AI governance with regional requirements—in a field in which Amrita has proved a leading presence in the country through its cross-disciplinary research. Being chosen for the IndiaAI Mission in the Safe and Trusted AI category also illustrates this fact.

Alongside this conclave, various high-level panel discussions were also arranged for building resilient AI ecosystems in health, education, banking, AI safety, ethics, and inclusive governance. There was participation from policymakers, leaders of industries, researchers, civil society organisations, and international organisations, with around 300 participants in hybrid mode.

With the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Safety Conclave and the release of this white paper, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is presently leading the charge towards the development of ethical and inclusive global perspectives on Artificial Intelligence, thus ensuring that the global voice on Artificial Intelligence includes that of India and the Global South.
