Developing a Teacher Professional Development program to train university teachers for adopting Educational Technology in their daily teaching practice to support active learning in classrooms

Description: This project aims to equip university teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to seamlessly integrate Educational Technology (EdTech) and foster Active Learning in their classrooms. In the rapidly evolving landscape of Indian education, the program addresses the challenges faced by experienced teachers who primarily rely on traditional lecturing. Using the Design-Based Research (DBR) approach, the project involves a comprehensive four-step iteration: Problem Identification, Investigation, Prototyping & Assessment, and Reflection. Through surveys and participatory methods, the needs and challenges of teachers are identified, leading to the design of a pilot Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program. This pilot, conducted at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, allows for assessment and refinement of the program based on real-world insights. The ultimate goal is to develop a mature TPD program that can be evaluated across campuses for its impact on integrating EdTech tools into daily teaching practices. By focusing on the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, the program ensures a dynamic interplay between technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge within specific educational context. Through lectures, readings, and discussions, participating teachers gain a foundational understanding of educational technology, active learning, and the TPACK framework, empowering them to enhance teaching effectiveness and improve student learning outcomes in today’s digitally-driven educational landscape.
