Syllabus

Unit I

Introduction to Digital Graphic Design

Introduction to design principles: Balance, Proximity, Alignment, Repetition, Contrast, and Space. Introduction to typography: Understanding fonts, line-height, spacing, and alignment. Basics of colour theory: Understanding colour psychology, colour harmony, and how to use colour effectively in designs.

Unit II

Design Software and Tools

Introduction to design software. Understanding layers, basic tools, filters, and photo manipulation techniques. Understanding vector graphics, basic tools, and creating digital illustrations. Understanding layout design, basic tools, and creating multi-page layouts with InDesign

Unit III

Creating Digital Artworks

Understanding vector graphics and raster graphics, and their usage. Image manipulation: Techniques for altering images to fit a design. Creating digital illustrations: Using Illustrator to create digital artworks. Designing logos and icons: Understanding the principles of logo and icon design.

Unit IV

Design for Print and Web

Layout design: Principles for creating effective layouts for print and web. Web graphics: Understanding web-friendly formats and designing graphics for the web. Social media design: Creating effective graphics for various social media platforms.

Unit V

Portfolio Development

Best practices for presenting designs to clients or in a professional setting. Creating a cohesive presentation, and writing effective descriptions.

Objectives and Outcomes

Course Objectives:

The objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles

and practices of digital graphic design. Students will learn to use various software tools and techniques to create digital artworks, logos, brochures, posters, and other marketing materials.

Course Outcome: (CO):

Students will be able to

CO1: Understand the fundamental principles of graphic design and visual communication.

CO2: Apply design principles to create visually appealing graphics

CO3: Analyze and critique designs using appropriate terminology.

CO4: Create original digital artworks using various software tools.Students will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of design solutions based on target audience and communication objectives.

CO5: Demonstrate proficiency in using various digital design tools.

CO6: Present and defend their design decisions effectively.
