Module 2: The Sixteen Steps of Puja

Introduction to the 16 steps of the Shodashopachara Puja Dhyanam andAavaahanam, Aasana, Paadya. Arghya, Aachamana, Madhuparka, Snaana, Vastra and Upaveeta, Gandha, Pushpa. Dhoopa, Deepa, Naivedya, Taamboola, Nirajanam, Mantrapushpa and Pradakshina

Module 3: Practical Applications
  • creating a sacred space for puja
  • Importance of cleanliness and intention
  • Participants practice a simplified version of the puja
  • Guided practice of the full 16-step puja
  • Focus on the significance and intention behind each step
  • Group discussion and feedback
Module 4: Devotional Practices and Reflection

Discussing methods to deepen devotion (mantra chanting, meditation)

  •  Incorporating puja into everyday
  • Participants share their experiences and insights from the practicum
  • Final puja performance as a group
  • Offering gratitude and seeking blessings
Materials Needed
  • Puja thali (plate), Panchapatram, Uddharanam – steel or copper
  • Flowers and fresh offerings (fresh or dry fruits)
  • Incense sticks and a Diya (lamp)
  • Water and clean cloths
  • Images or murtis of chosen deities
  • Mantra texts and prayer beads (Japa mala)

Introduction

This practicum course aims to equip participants with an extensive understanding of the methodical and traditional methods of puja (physical worship)rooted in IKS, enabling them to perform the sixteen -step puja with both devotion and expertise. Students will understand the significance of each phase in the puja by combining theoretical instruction with practical implementation.
