Smt. Uma Mahadevan Dasgupta is a senior Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1992 batch, Karnataka cadre, currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, Government of Karnataka. She also oversees the Departments of Panchayat Raj and Skill Development, Entrepreneurship & Livelihood in the state.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, she has held key positions both at the Centre and in the State Government. Her administrative leadership includes work in the Departments of Women & Child Development, Planning, Agriculture, Education, and Health & Family Welfare.
Smt. Mahadevan holds a postgraduate degree in English Literature and is a noted writer, with several publications and articles addressing themes of development, culture, and the arts. She was a core member of the working group that drafted Karnataka’s first Human Development Report and has served on the Government of India’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Taskforce.
Her work reflects a consistent commitment to inclusive development, human welfare, and cultural engagement, making her a respected voice in policy and governance circles.
