The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, is organizing a Two-Day Hands-on Training Program on Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and Video Measuring Machine (VMM).

This program is designed to provide participants with practical exposure and in-depth understanding of advanced dimensional measurement and inspection techniques widely used in modern manufacturing and quality control industries.

  • History, introduction and understanding the need for GD & T
  • Coordinate vs geometric tolerancing
  • Definitions: Feature, FOS, FCF, MMC, LMC, RFS
  • Calculation of bonus tolerance per MMC / LMC
  • DRF, definition of datums and DoF restrained by datums
11.00 AM – 11.30 AM Tea Break

  • Fundamental rules of GD&T – ASME Rule 1 & Rule 2
  • Five groups of GD&T parameters – Form, Orientation, Location, Run-out, Profile
  • Form tolerances: Straightness, Flatness, Circularity, Cylindricity
  • Orientation tolerances and applications
12.30 PM – 1.30 PM Lunch Break
1.30 PM – 3.30 PM CMM Fundamentals & Basics – Demo I (Classroom Session)
  • Types of CMMs – Cantilever, Bridge, Gantry & Portable
  • Types of Probes, Probe Heads & Styli
  • Interpretation of Measuring Uncertainty
  • Environmental conditions & their effect on measurements
  • Calibration of CMM – Frequency & Methods
  • Lines & Vectors (I, J, K), Directional Cosines

  • Profile of a line and Profile of a surface
  • Interpretation through Case Studies and Exercises
  • Inspection Methodology for GD&T Parameters
  • Reverse Engineering
12.30 PM – 1.30 PM Lunch Break
1.30 PM – 3.30 PM Demo II: Work piece alignment, strategy for measurement, practical measurement of different features, analysis of measured data.
CAD data usage will be discussed.
3.45 PM – 5.00 PM Video Measuring Machine (VMM)
  • Optical sensors on VMMs
  • Practical operation of video-based measuring systems
  • GD&T within VMM software

Registration Details

Registration Fee

  • UG/PG/Research Scholars: ₹1,000 + 18% GST = ₹1,180 /-
  • Outside Participants (Faculty/Lab Staff): ₹2,000 + 18% GST = ₹2,360 /-
  • Industry Professionals: ₹5,000 + 18% GST = ₹5,900 /-

Candidates opting for Demand Draft are requested to prepare the DD with the following details:

Submission Instructions

DD should be submitted at the registration desk on Day 1 of the program

Certificates will be issued upon successful participation
