Abstract : Programming assignments are crucial in programming courses designed to improve students’ practical programming skills. Assessment of these assignments are vital for instructors to evaluate student progress and provide valuable feedback. While manual assessment is effective, it is tedious and time-consuming, leading to an increased demand for Automated Assessment Tools. Integrating automated code assessment tools in programming courses stands out as a transformative approach, significantly enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the assessment process. Through a meticulous evaluation, this study explores the leading open-source automated code assessment tools, their assessment methods, and feedback mechanisms. Moreover, this paper briefly discusses the important strengths and limitations of these tools.
