Abstract : Dye pollutants present in the wastewater have been degraded with in situ generated hypochlorite ions. The electrochemical oxidation of a simulated Reactive Golden Yellow HER dye effluent has been carried out using a RuO2/Ti electrode. Experiments were conducted in batch, stack, and cylindrical electrochemical cells covering a wide range of operating conditions. The influence of the current densities, initial concentration of the dye, supporting electrolyte, and pH on COD reduction has been studied. Electrochemical analyses such as the current efficiency, mass transfer coefficient and specific power consumption were used. The mechanisms of the anodic oxidation of the chloride ion and the oxidation of the Reactive Golden Yellow HER dye with hypochlorite ions were studied in this investigation. The best cell performance was that of the cylindrical cell realized at 6h of residence time as 96.4% of COD reduction, at the expense of 217kWh/kg COD, with a mass transfer coefficient of 8.76×10−4 m/s.
