Abstract : In response to the escalating environmental concerns and the imperative for sustainable transportation, this paper presents a holistic investigation into the application of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives for Electric Vehicles (EVs). The research not only explores the intrinsic advantages and drawbacks of BLDC motors but also addresses the pressing need for torque ripple reduction, a critical aspect in enhancing the performance of these propulsion systems. This work employs the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) and the Genetic Algorithm (GA) to minimize torque ripple, thereby contributing to the optimization of BLDC motor drives for EVs. We conducted the studies on 48 V, 400 W, and 3000 RPM BLDC motor drives and achieved reductions in torque ripple of 21% and 34.65% with GA and WOA, respectively. Experimental results also verify the controller's performance.
