Abstract : Montelukast sodium, frequently prescribed for managing allergy and asthma, presents challenges in ensuring patient compliance and treatment effectiveness, primarily due to its oral administration, particularly problematic in susceptible demographics like children and the elderly. To overcome these hurdles, we previously developed transdermal films employing biodegradable polymers, notably sodium alginate and lignosulphonic acid, achieving a controlled release of montelukast sodium lasting up to 36 hours. This research aims to delve deeper into the mechanisms governing drug release and polymer behavior within these transdermal films. By employing diverse kinetic models such as Zero-order, First-order, Korsmeyer-Peppas, Kopcha, Higuchi and Sahlin-Peppas, our objective is to illuminate the underlying processes dictating drug diffusion and polymer dynamics. The insights obtained from this investigation hold significant potential for refining transdermal film formulations, thereby improving therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance in the treatment of allergies and asthma.
