Abstract : In wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE), transmitting chroma along with luma components through radio frequency transmission consumes large amount of power. Conventional methods transmit both luma along with sub-sampled chroma components. In the proposed method only luma component is encoded and transmitted. Chroma component is predicted from reconstructed luma at the decoder using generative adversarial network. To improve the quality of the reconstructed WCE images, chroma components are Wyner-Ziv encoded. Predicted chroma at the decoder serves as side information for decoding chroma components. Transmission of chroma components using proposed method needs very few bits compare to other WCE-JPEG based image compression methods. The proposed compression method achieves better compression ratio of 94.73 % at PSNR 43.59dB compared to other WCE image compression methods.
