India's First UNESCO Chair at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has been officially made India's first ever UNESCO Chair on gender equality and women's empowerment, by The United Nations. The official bestowing of the UNESCO Chair on the Coimbatore-based university took place in Paris on Wednesday during a spiritual programme of Amrita University's Chancellor , Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Vice Chancellor P. Venkat Rangan, said, "Even in the most advanced countries, there are very few such dedicated initiatives. In the coming four years, we will identify vulnerabilities of women and girls in India and ways of addressing. The focus will be vulnerability mapping as a result of security, education, and skill-development, social and cultural environment, climate change, disaster risks and health and sanitation."

In order to create awareness of the importance of mushrooms, the students of S3 B.Sc. Microbiology hosted a program named “Mycoscope” November 10th-11th, 2016. The Mycoscope 2016 programme presented an expo on the properties and uses of fungi, as well as recent discoveries about the fungi kingdom.
