Programme Director, NITI Aayog
Dr. Anshu Bharadwaj is Programme Director at NITI Aayog, Government of India, where he plays a vital role in shaping the country’s development strategies, particularly in the domains of clean energy, technology, and sustainability. A former officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Karnataka (1992 batch), Dr. Bharadwaj served in various administrative roles within the Government of Karnataka before transitioning to policy research and innovation leadership.
Dr. Bharadwaj holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, with dual specialization in Engineering & Public Policy and Mechanical Engineering. He also earned a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from IIM Calcutta, showcasing a rare combination of technical, policy, and managerial expertise.
His research focuses on developing technology and policy frameworks for India’s transition to clean energy. He has worked extensively on computational modelling of energy systems and contributes to several high-level national and state committees, including the Expert Group on Low Carbon Strategies for Inclusive Growth, initiated by NITI Aayog.
In addition to his policy and research roles, Dr. Bharadwaj serves as an Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. His career reflects a deep commitment to integrating scientific analysis with public policy to address India’s complex development challenges.
