Professor Emeritus – CEO EMH – Director SIMEV UNESCO
Prof. Gilbert M. Rios, with a foundational background in Chemical Engineering and Automatics, holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering (1976) and a French Doctorate in Sciences (1981). Over his distinguished academic career, he has held various positions in food and chemical engineering and currently serves as Professor Emeritus at both the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie and the European Membrane Institute in Montpellier.
Prof. Rios is internationally recognized for pioneering work in process design and membrane technologies, including in-situ functionalized membranes, process intensification, and enzymatic membrane reactors. He has co-authored over 120 publications in international journals and conferences and delivered more than 100 oral and poster presentations globally.
He coordinated the European Network of Excellence “NanoMemPro” under FP6 and is now CEO of the European Membrane House (EMH), a durable integrated structure initiated by the EU to sustain NanoMemPro’s mission. He has contributed to major European projects and platforms such as ChemWater and WssTP.
As Director of SIMEV, a UNESCO Chair on Membranes for the Environment, Prof. Rios is actively engaged in promoting membrane technology education, research, and implementation in developing countries.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE, London), a member of the European Membrane Society, and a member of the EFCE’s Working Party on Membranes.
