Prof. Vladimir Filkov 

Dr. Vladimir Filkov is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Davis, and an ACM Distinguished Member. He specializes in data science, with a focus on AI/ML-driven analytics for large, multimodal datasets across software engineering and systems biology. He co-directs the DECAL Lab and the AI for Health Lab, where his teams explore data-informed methods to improve software development practices and advance biomedical research. 

His work has led to significant findings, such as the critical role of team communication in sustainable software development and the discovery of genetic components affecting secondary growth and circadian rhythm in plants. With his students and collaborators, he has authored over 120 scientific publications and received multiple honors, including two test-of-time awards and the 2024 Outstanding Researcher Award from UC Davis College of Engineering. 

His recent projects on open-source software sustainability are supported by the NSF, Sloan Foundation, and Google. He was also the inaugural Director of Translational Data Science at DataLab, 2000-2024. 

Prof. Filkov’s interdisciplinary approach bridges computer science, biology, and engineering, making impactful contributions to both technological innovation and the life sciences.
