Energy efficiency and sustainability are pivotal in shaping the future of connected communities. Recent advances in ubiquitous technologies have paved the way for context-aware systems that deliver situation-based services.

The workshop introduces an innovative context-aware IoT framework designed to leverage energy behavioral insights and sustainable software architectures. The framework integrates technologies such as smart energy meters, energy analyzers, consumer-aware decision engines, and interactive interfaces, fostering adaptive and sustainable communities. This three-day workshop is designed to showcase the outcomes of the Enabling Energy Efficient Community through Context-Aware IoT Framework and Sustainable Software (E-CAISS) project, highlighting the integration of IoT-based frameworks and sustainable software architectures.

Speakers

Dr. Nishant Kumar

Assistant Professor,
Department of Electrical Engineering,
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur

Dr. Nishant Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, with research interests spanning power electronics, smart grid technologies, renewable energy integration, electric vehicle infrastructure, and digital twin-based energy systems. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi, where his doctoral work was recognized with the national Best Thesis Award. He later completed his postdoctoral research at the National University of Singapore, contributing to innovative solutions for sustainable port electrification, which also led to the establishment of a technology startup. As the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of SCPscan Pvt. Ltd., he is actively involved in commercializing intelligent energy monitoring and control solutions.

Dr. Patricia Lago

Professor of Software Engineering,
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU)

Dr. Patricia Lago is a Professor of Software Engineering at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), where she founded and leads the Software and Sustainability (S2) Research Group within the Department of Computer Science. She is an internationally recognized researcher and the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) for her outstanding scientific contributions to software sustainability. Prof. Lago’s research passion lies in advancing software engineering knowledge to design and develop software systems that are better, smarter, and more sustainable, bridging the gap between technological innovation and environmental responsibility.

Dr. Emitza Guzman

Assistant Professor,
Faculty of Science,
Software and Sustainability (S2)

Dr. Emitza Guzman Ortega is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science, specializing in Software and Sustainability (S2). Her research primarily focuses on two pivotal domains — Software Sustainability and Social Ethics and Privacy in Information Systems. In the area of Software Sustainability, Dr. Ortega explores methodologies for developing and maintaining software systems that are environmentally responsible, resource-efficient, and designed with long-term ecological impact in mind. Concurrently, her work on Social Ethics and Privacy in Information Systems addresses the ethical and privacy challenges emerging from the use of digital technologies, emphasizing the delicate balance between technological innovation, societal values, and individual rights.

Er. Hari M.

Assistant Professor

Er. Hari M. is an Assistant Professor with over 13 years of professional experience, including 11 years in teaching and 2 years in research. He holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, an M.Tech in Cyber Forensics and Information Security, and has also qualified the UGC–NET examination. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Digital Forensics and Blockchain Technology. His research interests focus on secure data management, blockchain applications, and forensic analysis in digital environments. Er. Hari is dedicated to advancing cyber security

Er. Gokulnath G.

Assistant Professor (Senior)

Er. Gokulnath G. is an Assistant Professor (Senior) with over 13 years of professional experience, including 12 years in teaching and 1 year in non-teaching roles. He holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, an M.Tech in Data Security, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. His areas of specialization include Blockchain Technology and Cyber Security, with a strong research interest in developing secure and resilient systems. He is passionate about integrating advanced security frameworks into emerging technologies to enhance data privacy and trust in digital environments.
