At the World Fisheries Day celebration hosted by the Thangachimadam Panchayat Fisheries Department, AMMACHI Labs—along with women from local seaweed cultivation groups—exhibited a range of seaweed-based products, including soaps and pickles.
The stall garnered significant community interest, demonstrating the potential of seaweed-based microenterprises in boosting women-led, sustainable coastal livelihoods.
A hands-on seagrass restoration initiative was conducted using cocopeat pots to plant locally occurring Halophila and Cymodocea species. Local women actively participated, placing the planted cocopeat pots in the seabed to encourage natural rooting.
The activity underscored the importance of seagrass meadows, which play a vital role in supporting fish populations, enhancing marine biodiversity, and sustaining the livelihoods of fishing communities.
