The IEEE Student Branch at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham – Amritapuri has achieved an important milestone – the start of its Silver Jubilee celebration (25 years of success, innovation, and serving humanity).
This occasion was made possible through the joint efforts of the HuT (Humanitarian Technology) Labs and the Amrita School of Engineering’s (Amritapuri) Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) faculty members. Distinguished leaders from academia, industry, and IEEE were present at this event, demonstrating the commitment of the Student Branch to continue with innovative approaches to serve society.
Distinguished Dignitaries Attended the Event
The inauguration ceremony featured Chief Guest Ramesh Nair, VP of IEEE-USA and Senior EDA Tools Hardware Engineer at Intel Corp. Dr. B. S. Manoj was an honored guest for this ceremony. He is the Chair of IEEE Kerala Section and senior professor and associate dean at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology. Both guests showed that IEEE Amrita has been recognized globally and nationally as an active IEEE Student Branch for approximately 25 years.
In addition to celebrating this landmark anniversary, several expert speakers were invited to present during the Silver Jubilee festivities. Ramesh Nair spoke about “Inside the Chip: How VLSI & EDA Impact Electronic Design Today,” where he provided valuable information regarding changes in semiconductor manufacturing and design automation.
Dr. B. S. Manoj gave an inspirational talk entitled “Impactful Research: What Are You Waiting To Start?” He encouraged students and researchers to pursue safe, meaningful & future-ready research. Finally, Prof. Reshna Ayoob, Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and Amrita Alumnus from TKM College of Engineering, spoke about “Membership Growth in the IEEE SPS,” with the goal of promoting and supporting professional development through active membership with IEEE organisations.
Adding more to the richness of the event, Dr. Sudalaimani C., Secretary of IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBS) and C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram, gave a very informative speech on “Assistive Communication Using Brain Computer Interfaces.” Dr. M. V. Rajesh spoke on Professional Activities, Ethics, and Networking, emphasizing the need for honesty, teamwork, and good friendships in reaching success in academics and profession.
Technology with a Human Touch
The highlight of the event was the presentation of Aravind Solar Dryers which were built by students and presented to persons receiving support from their local community. This shows the commitment of Amrita University through HuT Labs; Using Technology to Effect Societal Change. In addition, this project is an example of Amrita’s commitment to creating a sustainable future by reducing waste through the use of renewable resources.

The IEEE Student Branch at Amritapuri has come a long way in the last 25 years, and it has become a thriving platform for developing technical skills, leadership, research, and humanitarian services.
The inauguration of the Silver Jubilee celebration not only marked the success of the past but also marked the beginning of a new era of innovation and global engagement.
