As part of the Deeksharambh 2025 orientation program for first-year BDS students, the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, hosted an engaging workshop titled “Building Gender Harmony & Inner Confidence through Indic Frameworks.” The session was facilitated by Radhika Shetty from the Centre for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (CWEGE), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and supported by fourth-year BDS students Abina Pradeep and Aishwarya K from the AIMS Dental School.
The interactive session encouraged students to reflect on gender sensitivity, empathy, and emotional well-being in academic and professional spaces. It aimed to build confidence and self-awareness among young medical professionals while introducing Indic frameworks for personal growth and reflection.
Designed to help “thaw the ice” among first-year students, the workshop created a safe space for open dialogue and reflection. One of the common concerns discussed was anger management, prompting participants to share their personal insights and coping strategies. Faculty members also emphasized the increasing importance of addressing mental well-being challenges among Generation Z students.
The session concluded with a dynamic Power Walk activity that clarified distinctions between gender and sex, exploring how these constructs shape social perceptions and behavior. Students left with thought-provoking questions — Why do we laugh when women are mistreated, even in entertainment? How does media shape our understanding of gender and empathy?
By blending the principles of quality education, gender equality, and inclusivity, the workshop demonstrated Amrita’s commitment to creating compassionate, value-based, and resilient learning spaces that empower future healthcare professionals.
