Abstract : Many rural Indians struggle with subsistence concerns and serious environmental challenges. Despite its desirable position, JJ Nagar, a small seaside neighbourhood in Rameswaram town, exhibits these issues with its inadequate water management. Access to dependable, clean water sources is a major factor affecting the quality of life in the community. In order to offer clean, safe drinking water, this study suggests a human-centered approach to water problem solving that makes use of a reverse osmosis (RO) system. The neighbourhood needs 1,750 litres of clean water per day, and the RO system can provide 250 litres of that water every hour. With its implementation, monthly household water expenses drop from 1,500 INR to 138 INR, resulting in a 91.6% cost savings. Through direct community engagement and the application of cutting edge filtering technology, the RO system can guarantee the supply of potable water while efficiently eliminating up to 99% of contaminants. Using solar power to power the RO system lowers operational costs and improves sustainability. By guaranteeing that the community has access to clean water, this strategy not only promotes environmental sustainability but also raises community members’ standards of living. Empirical findings validate the approach’s viability and efficacy, providing a workable plan to reduce water scarcity and encourage creative water resource management.
