Abstract : When nonlinear loads are introduced to a distribution system, various power quality challenges emerge, such as load unbalance, harmonic distortion, and reactive power mismatch. This study presents a novel solution utilizing a joint logarithmic hyperbolic cosine adaptive filter-operated distribution static compensator to mitigate these issues. The cost function of the adaptive filter is designed to be smooth for minor errors and resilient to significant errors. The proposed control technique computes fundamental active and reactive currents, generating reference signals for the distribution static compensator. A comparative analysis with conventional adaptive control techniques is also conducted. The distribution system undergoes comprehensive testing under various dynamics to ensure compliance with IEEE-519 standards. Real-time simulation-based experiments are employed to showcase the algorithm's performance.
