Abstract :
Sleep is a significant component of physical and mental health, as well as overall wellbeing.If a person gets good quality and quantity of sleep in his/her daily life,it provides many benefits to the body. Ayurveda describes the concept of sleep by the term Nidra and its importance as one among the main three pillars of life – Trayopastambha. Nidra is a very important regimen of day to day life and if not taken adequately can cause severe diseases. Lack of sleep certainly affects the functions of the central nervous system and due to sleep deprivation many sleep disorders such as anxiety, depression, stress etc. and poor memory, difficulty in focusing, excessive daytime sleepiness, lethargy, tiredness, morning headaches etc. can occur.In this article, an attempt is done to do a critical review study of Nidra and its importance.
