Abstract : The focus of the present work is to develop a fault detection method for structure under traversing mass in the domain of statistical process control (SPC) analysis. The aim of the proposed work is find out the possible existences and locations of cracks in the structures. A double cracked cantilever beam under traversing mass has been considered in this analysis. The possible existences and locations of cracks are identified from the measured dynamic response of the structure using finite element analysis (FEA) as forward analysis. The possible existences of cracks are detected using control chart analysis procedure in pattern of SPC analysis. The auto regressive (AR) method in the domain of statistical pattern recognition problem has been applied to identify the location of cracks in the structure as reverse problem. It has been observed that the results from FEA converge well with those of SPC methods.
