Abstract : This investigation examines Generative AI research with a focus on ChatGPT in the Asia–Pacific (APAC) region, utilizing a dataset of 2,547 publications from the Dimensions database for the years 2022 and 2023. The paper presents an exhaustive analysis of geographic distributions, source titles, and reader demographics pertinent to ChatGPT research in APAC. It further delineates thematic clusters, elucidating the research’s multifaceted character. Employing Altmetrics, the study assesses the nascent impact of ChatGPT publications, revealing robust online engagement, including substantial mentions on social platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit, as well as extensive coverage in news outlets and blogs. A notable Mendeley readership evidences scholarly interest. Although the study acknowledges the limitations inherent in Altmetric methodologies, it emphasizes their supplementary role to traditional bibliometric analyses. Consequently, the paper serves as an indispensable resource for scholars and institutions interested in the initial influence of ChatGPT research in the APAC context.
