Abstract :

The back bone of retail industry is manpower. Without manpower retail industry is unimaginable. With the competition and easily available opportunities in the growing retail sector as well as many retail outlets mushrooming in every which place the availability of job opportunities in retail has enormously increased. However, the takers of such job are a certain section of people. In recent times severe attrition has been observed in the retail stores of various retail companies that operate in Bangalore city, Karnataka. This study tries to understand problem of attrition in retail stores and find out a solution by analyzing the condition in which people work as well as their aspirations and expectation from the organization. We are exploring the hygeine-motivation theory (two factor theory) to try and figure out the possible causes and solution of attrition in retail and in the process the efforts to reduce attrition are also being chalked out. Emphasis is put on motivation and job satisfaction as the key aspects being explored in the study.
