Abstract : Lean production systems are all about waste management. The application of lean assessment by a manufacturing firm is a critical step in maximizing the benefits of its lean transformation process. The aspiring companies around the globe that follow lean production, approaches various techniques for evaluating the outcomes of their applications. In this paper, a comprehensive comparative study of the different methods involved in the lean assessment is discussed. Despite the several techniques used for lean assessment, this work focuses on various Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) tools. The specific five MCDM techniques like AHP, ANP, TOPSIS, VIKOR, Fuzzy Logic, and its combinations (ensemble methods) are compared in detail. This review article enables the end-users to compare the performance characteristics decisively when choosing among several alternatives in lean production.
