The Department of English functions as a supporting department to the mainstream engineering departments. The importance of this department stems from the dynamic needs of the corporate world wherein today it is not just important to be knowledgeable but also equally important to communicate one’s knowledge effectively. Accordingly courses are spread across three semesters. Students are offered Communicative English in the I semester, Business Communication in the III semester (Elective) and one Technical Communication two literature electives in the IV semester so as to make technical students stimulate creative thinking.
To help students nurture communication skills, the department has a fully functional state-of-the-art Language lab. Language software are installed which deal with modules that complement classroom teaching with practical examples. The lab activities also include components like power point presentations, mock interviews, group discussions, personality development, business etiquettes, etc to focus on the corporate communication requirements.
The department endeavors to keep the humane spirit alive. Every faculty member of this department has close interaction with students. The representatives of the department work in coordination with the rest of the college in the making of the college magazine ‘Sanchita’. The department also dynamically mentors extracurricular activities. The department aims to bring out publications in national and international journals. The department also participates in paper presentations in institutes of repute.

English Language Lab
Department of English, ASE, Bengaluru, is provided with a Language Laboratory to facilitate the teaching of communication skills. The lab is equipped with 30 computers, headphones and, an overhead projector. All the systems are installed with the language software which has two components: English lab (EL Client) and Career Lab (CL Client). El client is customized to train students on grammar, usage, conversational skills and phonetics. Career lab on the other hand is designed to instill soft skills required in corporate culture. EL Client has modules on personality development, interpersonal skills, entrepreneurial skills and interviews.
