Training activities at the newly inaugurated Women’s Empowerment Center in Harsani village, Sheo Constituency, Barmer District, are progressing steadily this week, with a strong emphasis on both skill development and collective responsibility.
The programme began with an orientation session that encouraged participants to reflect on their daily responsibilities and jointly establish shared commitments for the center. Women collectively agreed on maintaining cleanliness, taking care of sewing machines, safeguarding training materials and equipment, ensuring regular upkeep of toilets and common spaces, and using waste bins responsibly. Class timings were also finalised, reinforcing punctuality and routine as integral parts of the learning process.
Following this, participants moved into tailoring-focused training. Sessions commenced with an instructional video, after which women engaged in hands-on practice in hand stitching. To build confidence and familiarity, participants were first trained to operate sewing machine pedals on empty machines before progressing to full machine use.
In subsequent sessions, these foundational skills were strengthened through guided sewing machine practice, focusing on correct foot-pedal operation and proper machine handling. The technical training was complemented by a Life Enrichment Education (LEE) session, which featured an educational video developed by AMMACHI Labs, followed by a group discussion that encouraged reflection, participation, and shared learning.
Together, these sessions highlight a holistic approach to women’s empowerment—integrating technical skills, discipline, responsibility, and collective care—as participants continue their journey toward self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
The Women’s Empowerment initiatives in Rajasthan are implemented by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham with support from Esri India.
