Unit 1

Nature & Evolution of Management – Definition, scope, importance; evolution of management thought (classical, behavioural, systems, contingency). 

Unit 2

Planning & Decision-Making – Process, types, forecasting, goal-setting, decision-making models. 

Unit 3

Organising – Organisation structure and design; division of work; authority, responsibility, and delegation; coordination. 

Unit 4

Directing & Leadership – Motivation (Maslow, Herzberg, McGregor); leadership theories and styles; communication. 

Unit 5

Controlling & Governance – Control techniques; modern management practices; ethics, corporate governance, and relevance for legal and business institutions. 

Objectives and Outcomes

Course Objectives 

  1. To introduce students to the nature, scope, and evolution of management and its relevance in modern organisational settings. 
  2. To develop an understanding of planning processes, forecasting methods, and decision-making models applicable to managerial contexts. 
  3. To familiarise learners with organisational structures, authority relationships, delegation, and coordination mechanisms. 
  4. To enable students to understand motivation theories, leadership styles, and effective communication essential for directing people in organisations. 
  5. To examine managerial control techniques, corporate governance principles, and ethical practices relevant to business and legal institutions 


Course Outcomes
 

  1. Explain fundamental concepts and the evolution of management and apply them to contemporary organisational challenges. 
  2. Demonstrate the ability to formulate plans, set goals, and use decision-making models for effective managerial action. 
  3. Analyse organisational structures and apply principles of authority, responsibility, and delegation for efficient organisational design. 
  4. Apply motivation theories, leadership approaches, and communication strategies to real-world managerial situations. 
  5. Evaluate control mechanisms, governance practices, and ethical frameworks essential for managing business and legal organisations responsibly. 


Teaching Methodology: 
Lecture, Group Discussion, PowerPoint Presentation etc. as per the requirement of each module.
