| Key responsibilities
|
- Provide legal advice to the university management on institutional, academic, administrative, and operational matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and vet contracts, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), agreements, and legal documents.
- Ensure compliance with applicable education laws, labor laws, corporate laws, intellectual property laws, and other relevant regulations.
- Represent or coordinate representation of the university before courts, tribunals, regulatory authorities, and government agencies.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and monitor litigation involving the university.
- Draft and review university statutes, ordinances, regulations, policies, and governance documents.
- Advise on disciplinary proceedings involving students, faculty, and staff, ensuring adherence to principles of natural justice.
- Handle legal notices, replies, petitions, affidavits, and other legal correspondence.
- Provide guidance on procurement, tenders, partnerships, collaborations, and commercial transactions.
- Advise on intellectual property rights, research agreements, technology transfer, and licensing matters.
- Conduct legal risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures. *Keep university leadership informed of changes in relevant laws and regulatory requirements.
- Organise legal awareness and compliance training for faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Maintain records of legal cases, contracts, and compliance documentation.
